EARTH STANDS STILL
Nils Karlson is a passionate collector of colour and light , often accompanied by his dog pack known as The Boy Band . Using film in several formats and packing too many cameras , he searches the coasts of Europe for subtle colours , silence and serenity . In 2016 he published “ Earth Stands Still “, which sold out in two months . His works have been included in exhibitions in Bochum , St . Louis , and Barcelona , as well in the Film Shooters Collective book “ NSEW “ and “ The f / D Book of Pinhole “. He is working on a second book to be published late 2017 .
What once was balancing stability and change , has become fragile and delicate due to the impact of mankind . We are intertwined with nature , though we must not forget she can do without humans – but humans can not exist without nature . There ’ d no such thing like culture without a surrounding nature , so we want to treat her with care and the greatest humility . She will still be there after we are long , long gone and forgotten . Changed and beaten by greed and discord – but she will persist . We are only temporal .
Taking a step away from the highly populated , regimented , and domesticated surroundings of the area called “ home “, I seek for silence , calm , and peace .
Along with my furry companions , we explore the coastal sites of Europe , with the nomadic doorstep of a camper van . We witness the vast range of perception of time – from the fleeting delicacy of the smallest grasses to the slowly changing granite boulders , ground by the salty depths of the Atlantic . It feels much more home than the address printed in my passport .
