VIENNA FERRIS WHEEL
The giant Ferris wheel was built to celebrate the Golden Jubilee of Emperor Franz Josef I in
1897. A year later, a recent incident occurred To draw attention to the misery that
surrounded her, her husband and other people in the city, the Viennese woman Marie
Kindle hangs on a rope she held between her teeth when she climbed out of one of the
cabins during her trip. In 1914, Mrs Solange d'Atalid, the successful director of the circus
and rider, veered the full rotation on the Giant Ferris wheel on a horse, standing on the
roof of one of the cabins. In 1916 it was decided to demolish the Ferris wheel, but it
resisted due to the lack of funds for destruction. Since 1920, a large number of American
directors have used the Ferris wheel as a place to film in their films. During the Second
World War in 1944, the Ferris wheel was burned. In 1945, the Wheel was rebuilt together
with the St. Stephen's Cathedral, the State Opera House and the Burgtheater and was put
into operation in 1947.
