ST. STEPHEN ' S CATHEDRAL

The building and the cultural object- St. Stephen ' s Cathedral is the subject of many books, paintings and studies. St. Stephen ' s Cathedral- a treasure trove of art and architecture. Altars, portals, towers, columnar figures, drawings: each detail has its own goal, background and history.
The height of St. Stephen ' s Cathedral is 107.2 meters, width- 34.2 meters. The cathedral has four towers. The height of the highest southern tower is 136.44 meters. After climbing 343 steps, visitors enter the bell ringer ' s room, from where an excellent view of Vienna opens. Here hangs a total of 13 bells. The most famous bell of St. Stephen ' s Cathedral, Pummerin, is on the northern tower, whose height is 68.3 meters.
The St. Stephen ' s Cathedral was badly damaged by fire during the last days of World War II and was practically reduced to ruins. But it would seem that everyone who held out his hand restored the cathedral in just seven years: the emblem of Austria and the symbol of the Austrian identity rose again from the ashes.
