U5 LINE MUSEUM
By the end of 2018, the work on the construction of one of the largest metro projects in the city's history will
begin. Already, the Wiener Linien Infocentre will allow interested persons to deeply look into the Vienna
underground world and into the practice of tunnel construction. The first visitors to the exhibition were Ulli
Sima, U-Bahn deputy director, and Maria Vassilaku, Deputy Mayor, led by Wiener Linien, Managing Director
Gunther Steinbauer and curator Christian Rapp. The doors for visitors are open on Tuesdays and Thursdays
between 4 and 7 pm.
The information centre gives an idea of the future of the city. An interactive and multimedia exhibition was
²
created on an area of more than 700 m , which leaves no questions unanswered regarding the planning,
construction and operation of new metro routes. A highlight is a copy of the tunnel boring machine and a
1: 1 representation of the U5 platform in a new design. Visitors are invited to operate the tunnel boring
station on the bowels to get an overview of where in the world there are already trains without a driver, or
even to plan future metro lines at interactive stations.
