PALAIS-HOTEL
ERZHERZOG
JOHANN GRAZ
The General Manager Daria Ljilja-Schirmann and her
team welcome you to the Erzherzog Johann – a hotel
steeped in tradition. It is the unique flair at the former
Baroque palace, our 57 rooms and suites that are
steeped in history, the excellent location right in the
heart of Graz and our highly attentive staff will make
for a truly remarkable stay. The inner courtyard
covered with a glass ceiling is at the heart of our 4
star city hotel and offers a distinguished atmosphere
at any time of the day. The hotel houses both a café –
the Erzherzog Johann Café – as well as a bar – the
Ernst Fuchs Bar – that brings up connotations of Prof.
Ernst Fuchs, the main representative of the ‘Vienna
School of Fanatastic Realism’. No matter what brings
you here – a city trip, a seminar or group travels – all
these characteristics perfectly top off your stay with
us.
The history of Graz and our hotel are closely
intertwined and date back to the 16th century when
the building housed one of the largest taverns within
the city walls.
THE 16TH CENTURY INN
In 1596 the house at Sackstrasse 5 was turned into an
inn. Located in the city centre it could only be reached
passing over the Mur Bridge built in the 14th century
for which high tolls were charged. Documents from
the time state that the inn, even back then was
“suitable to accommodate ladies and gentlemen of
highest nobility”.
