Hodler , Vallotton , Calame , Saint - Ours ,
Agasse , Schwabe , Liotard , Pradier , Tinguely ,
Giacometti , Bartholomew Menn , Perrier ,
Baud - Bovy , Trachsel or Amiet ... The fine art
collections of the Museum of Art and History
offer an essential panorama of Swiss art ,
supported by remarkable works from the
history of international art .
Around the nucleus of works sent by the
Napoleonic administration to its
administrative centre in 1810 , the museum
was able to gather masterpieces from all
European schools : Italian , Flemish and Dutch
or French schools .
The links maintained by the landscapers of
the first half of the nineteenth century and
the French painter Camille Corot offer the
first opening to French painting in the
second half of the nineteenth century .
Courbet , Renoir , Cézanne , Pissarro interact in
theatres and introduce the twentieth century
of Picasso , Saura , Bram Van Velde or Henry
Moore .
The course of the fine arts plays on the idea
of temporary and permanent . The notions of
chronology or schools sometimes give way to
thematic and / or diachronic connections : the
fine arts are discovered in Geneva with the
curiosity and freedom that has always
guided our donors .
