Bled Castle is one of the oldest castles in
Slovenia . His history dates back to 1011 ,
King Henry II presented him to a bishop
of Brixen . The photo of the castle
towering above the lake with the island
and the church is one of the visiting
cards of Slovenia . And from the open
terraces of the castle you can see the
Gorenjska region between the Karavanke
mountains and the Julian Alps .
The castle buildings are located on two
levels . The castle is protected by a large
Romanesque wall with a defensive
corridor , an entrance tower and a
majestic Gothic defensive tower .
In the lower courtyard there is a printing
house , a memorial room of Primorye
Trubar , Stolp Gallery , a magain with
honey products and a cafe . In the
courtyard is a wine cellar .
The most interesting is located on the
upper level - it ' s a chapel of the XVI
century and a museum where relics are
exhibited , telling about the historical
development of the Bled region . There is
also a restaurant and a summer terrace
and a smithy .
