Perfect Ponytail
Spring is here and it's time for cute clothes,
flip flops, and ponytails. In the warmer
months, I'm the queen of messy buns and
hair pulled back in a cute ponytail.
As a cosmetologist, one of the questions I get
asked a lot is how to achieve the perfect,
bouncy ponytail. Keep reading as I walk you
through the steps to get this look.
Step 1:
Start with dry hair. If your hair is freshly
washed, you may want to spray some dry
shampoo or a light weight hair spray through
your locks to "dirty it up" a little. Day old hair
styles the best.
Step 2:
Divide your hair into two sections, separating
the sections at the occipital bone. Clip the
top section away while you work on the
bottom. Using a fine tooth comb, or paddle
brush bring the bottom section together and
tie it at or slightly above the part made
between the sections of hair. Once tied, use
that same comb or brush and lightly tease at
the base of the ponytail. Then smooth over.
Step 3:
Take the top section and comb or brush in
the same way you did the bottom section. Tie
this section no more than an inch above the
bottom. Tease the base of the ponytail in the
same was the bottom was done, then
smooth.
Step 4:
This is where you can have fun and make the
ponytail custom to you. If you prefer a sleek
look, add a little hairspray and you're done!
If you prefer a little messier look, pull lightly
at a few strands around the base to loosen
them up. For added texture, spray a bit of dry
shampoo or a texture spray and gently shake
your fingers through the ponytail.
