The British Empire was tottering and proving to be an expensive proposition to hold on to and they began a tactical withdrawal from their vast spheres of influence around the globe . Those that had invested heavily in Kenya were at a quandary .
It would have been insane to hand over the country to the so-called terrorists who had harassed them for four years but the writing was now on the wall that business would not continue as usual and a new strategy was necessary .

The colonists had just admitted new shareholders to the Kenya Enterprise and they compensated them handsomely for the onerous job they would have to do to keep the locals under subjugation by providing labor and paying taxes .
So , if you wonder how suddenly a president acquired millions of acres of land , it was his remuneration as the head of a white enterprise in an African country . Of course , it was natural that he would invite his cronies to the table to safeguard his new found wealth .
Not all the people who agitated for independence were cynical opportunists and there were those that were deeply disappointed by the turn of events . The avoidance of a Mau Mau type of upheaval as an excuse to keep oppressing the people did not sit well with many .
It was imperative for the supposedly departing colonists to maintain peace in the country if the exploitation of the country was to continue . Soon Kenyans involved in the struggle realized that security without liberty was still a prison .
This unease due to a hijacked country created a tension within the country as it became apparent that we had entered an era of neo-colonialism . The spate of assassinations during the birthing of the nation is indicative of an intolerant regime .
Frustration by a retrogressive government outlook that rendered no benefits to the Mwanainchi gave rise to a group largely opposed to a land policy that did not resettle the landless in the areas where they had been removed by colonists .
Amazingly the Kenyan leader had become the agent of the colonist and continued to disenfranchise the Mwanainchi on whose back he had risen to political prominence . Democracy was morphing into dictatorship .

The struggle between the president and his principal assistant did not start today , it started then , when a disgruntled vice president Jaramogi quit in a huff and formed an opposition party and subsequently penned the ‘ Not yet Uhuru ’ treatise .
In retaliation the president dug in and started to pass laws that ring-fenced his authority and made Kenya a one-party state to kill democracy , that never existed in the first place and made it impossible for Kenyans to question his actions which only served his masters .
Things got so bad that at one time it was actually a crime to contemplate the death of the president as intolerance slid into paranoia and we began to create the imperial presidency that eventually became the bane of Kenyans .
That is when the rain started to beat us and all subsequent presidencies have skirted around the need to serve Kenyans rather than foreign interests . The Mwanainchi has never had a stake in his own country .
The Moi presidency was marred by intrigue to oust him as there were those who believed he did not deserve it or were afraid that uncomfortable secrets would be revealed . An attempted coup turned him into a tyrant .
When one realizes that their hold onto power is tenuous then a resource grab is the most effective way to maintain power . One requires a war chest of funds to pay off possible challengers and to create a personal security machinery .
All Kenyan presidencies have been shaky since they are not based on general popular support but are buttressed by tribal affiliations and this gave rise to tribal hegemony where the smaller tribes are left out of the national discourse .
Kibaki was haunted by a shady MOU that he apparently did not honor and although his was the best presidency for the country it did not shield him from the many shadowy stakeholders in the Kenyan arena who only serve their own interests .
Uhuru ’ s presidency was marred by the historical baggage that his father had and the unfortunate development that started to create political families with leadership not based on merit but by inheritance from their parents .
Given this background one realizes that Raila is actually a warlord who has honed the art of destabilizing the country and
