Carlo Balistrieri’s photography was featured
on the cover, center spread and interior of the
recent issue of the American Public Garden
Association’s publication, Public Garden.
Cathy Wilkinson Barash just added another
job to her portfolio—radio personality. She will
be one of the co-hosts on the Gardening Today
radio show on Sunday mornings from 10 a.m.
to noon (Central Time). The format of the show
is call-in; between callers, Cathy and the other
host discuss the latest gardening topics as well
as timely tips on what to do in the garden. Tune
in to WHO radio—1040 on the AM dial to listen
to the show. Or listen live online.
The November-December 2016 issue of the
Minnesota Conservation Volunteer magazine
(MN DNR) is running a 10-page article written
and photographed by Bill Johnson, titled
“Into the Light” about his nighttime moth
photography in Minnesota.
Nancy Knauss, master gardener coordinator at
Penn State University Extension, was the project
manager for the recently published Master
Gardener training manual.
Barbara Perry Lawton from Missouri has the
lead article “Rise of the Redbuds” in the September/October 2016 issue of American Gardener
magazine.
Elvin McDonald, a GWA member since 1951,
has joined the board of the West Des Moines
(Iowa) Historical Society. He is tasked with
designing new savanna-style gardens of native
plants for Jordan House, which was built circa
1850. Once a stop on the Underground
Railroad, it now operates as a museum.
Planning will begin next spring.
The November/December 2016 issue of
Oklahoma Gardener magazine features an
article about noteworthy horticulturists and
gardeners in Oklahoma, including GWA
member, Russell Studebaker. He is an
author, speaker and monthly columnist for
the Oklahoma Gardener.
Chanticleer Garden’s Executive Director Bill
Thomas was recognized for his contributions
to public gardens at an award ceremony
presented by Bartram’s Garden in Philadelphia.
