other riders go through it . Here , you rode it that one time and you may ride two other tests and go back to that test . Well , 600 other riders went through that test , so now the lines are completely different . This berm may be blown out that wasn ’ t that you hit the time before .
You just had to ride kind of smart , and especially with how it was silty and dusty . It was real easy to blow through a berm and hit something that was in the silt that you didn ’ t know and go down and lose some time . There ’ s similarities in both the National Enduros and Sprint Enduros , but overall if you combine those two , you kind of get a representation of what it was like over there to run them .
WAS IT HARD TO KEEP YOUR FOCUS FOR SIX DAYS ?
Yes and no . For me , every day was exciting because it was my first Six Days . Where I found it the most challenging to keep your head on straight and not daydream was the transfers . You may be riding an hour-and-a-half transfer , and there ’ s so many old trails that you ’ re riding on the transfers , that it would be easy to be daydreaming a little bit and miss an arrow , and then you ’ re way off track before you even realize it . Or if you ’ re following someone in front of you and they miss it , you ’ re just kind of playing follow-theleader . You could get real lost real quick and lose a lot of time .
That was the only part where I struggled . I had to keep on myself so that my mind wasn ’ t wandering and I was always watching the arrows because I didn ’ t want to get a time penalty . That ’ s what I was super nervous about on day one . I didn ’ t really know how any of it worked .
But after day one , I got way more comfortable . And it was a little easy for us because the first three days we ran the same transfer every day . Then the last two days , we ran the same transfer . So , we got a little lucky because you got familiarized with the trail and the transfers and things like that .
WHAT WAS THE COOLEST THING YOU SAW IN ITALY ?
Honestly , the coolest thing in Italy for me were just the views . We would ride these mountain ranges on transfers or even be driving and you ’ d look off in the distance and you ’ d just see tons of mountain ranges . Walking the cross tests , you could look out in the distance and you would just see mountains after mountains . That was definitely the coolest thing , in my opinion .
The coolest thing that we did outside of racing the dirt bike , was we had one off day and we went to the ocean . We did some cliff jumping into the ocean and stuff , so that was really cool . I would definitely say the views and the ocean were the coolest part outside of the racing .
