WORLD TROPHY TEAM ( WT )
After winning the 2019 ISDE in Portugal , the US World Trophy team returned to defend its title . Consisting of seasoned veteran riders Taylor Robert ( KTM ) and Ryan Sipes ( GasGas ), both of whom also former ISDE overall winners , Layne Michael ( Yamaha ), who was previously part of the 2016 championship team , and newcomer Johnny Girroir ( GasGas ), Team USA was among those favored to take the top step , alongside the Italian World Trophy Team of Andrea Verona ( GasGas ), Davide Guarneri ( Fantic ), Thomas Oldrati ( Honda ), and Matteo Cavallo ( TM ), whose last ISDE team win went back to 2007 .
On opening day , Team Italy took full advantage of their home field , establishing themselves at the top of the leaderboard . With Verona taking a few falls during the final test of the day , Team Spain ’ s Josep Garcia ( KTM ) was able to make the pass and helped his team of Jaume Betriu ( KTM ), Marc Sans ( Husqvarna ), and Cristobal Guerrero ( Beta ) establish a firm grasp on second place .
