DIANE : I ' ve never been what you would call " ok " with it [ laughs ]; I ' m always nervous , even to this day . Every time he goes to the starting line , my heart beats out of control , and I get to where I ' m almost feeling like I ' m having an anxiety attack . I ' m never ok with it , but I ' ve gotten to the point where I ' ve had to realize that he ' s very capable and very good at what he does . Talking about accidents and stuff , a lot of the times that Quinn has had accidents , they ' ve been because of things that were out of his control . That ' s what racing ' s about , too ; you understand that if you ' re going to get on a motorcycle and go out and race , it ' s dangerous . Quinn ' s gone from being a child in it to being an adult in it . He always says " Mom , don ' t worry about me ." It ' s just one of those things that you hope for the best .
MICHELE : It started so innocently . Willem turned 4 on October 6th , and a few days later , he had his first flat track race . Alex was a little bit older than that when he started . They were on these little bikes and they weren ' t going very fast ; they were just having fun . We pulled the plug when flat track got faster , and had more inexperienced kids on the track ; I got worried . That just happened to coincide with their interest in trials anyway . Trials started innocently , too . It didn ' t really turn my stomach the way it does now because at the time , it didn ' t seem like it was over their
head or too dangerous . I think when they got up to the Expert line is when it started like " hey , that ' s a really big rock that you ' re gonna throw yourself at ." That was the part that was more troublesome .
Now that they ' re older , there ' s two things : my stomach gets in knots because I want them to do well , but also because they ' re pitching themselves at these huge rocks , and they ' re coming down off big drops and things like that . There ' s a compounding level of anxiety that comes with it because it is motorcycling . One of the things you ’ ll notice about the Myers boys that ’ s very different from any of the other Pro riders right now is that they both wear full face helmets ; that ’ s not negotiable . They ’ ve both taken tumbles , and those full-face helmets have saved them , their faces , their teeth . It ’ s just an added obstacle that they ’ re going to have to overcome .
This sequence -- > is always a favorite of both Alex and Will . Alex actually ended up injuring himself in this section at a local trials event and getting an infection just before going to ride in the highly competitive Expert class in the 2018 AMA National Mototrials Championship
