When it comes to energy bars , I ' ll be honest , I ' m really picky . There are so many different kinds to choose from ; how do you know which one is best for you , which one won ' t start to make you drag or go into a sugar coma ? Especially when they all promise you the same thing .
I kept hearing about a new brand of energy bar that is becoming increasingly popular in the off-road scene , and I had to try some for myself . The folks at Kate ' s Real Food were kind enough to send some complimentary samples for me to put to the test .
Seven different flavors showed up at my door , so I brought in a few friends of mine and we sat down for a taste test . We had a team of two girls and two guys , weightlifters , hikers , outdoorsy and health-conscious , with completely different taste buds and lists of demands for what we want from our energy bars .
Our flavors were :
• dark chocolate mint
• lemon coconut & ginger
• peanut butter milk chocolate
• peanut butter dark chocolate
• peanut butter hemp & flax
• dark chocolate cherry & almond
• mango coconut
On our first bite , we were surprised on a number of different things . The biggest thing we noticed was that none of the flavors are overpowering , and they didn ' t linger long after you were done chewing .
If you ' ve ever had an energy bar from your local convenience store , you ' ll know exactly what I ' m talking about . Typically , you would end up feeling like you just ate a candy bar instead of a health bar ( if you ' re like me and choose chocolate ones ), with a heavy and lingering peanut butter or chocolate flavor , coupled with a
