The “ Three Day Trial de Santigosa ” remains as one of the most popular trials events in Spain and 2018 marked the 47th edition of the iconic event . 233 Riders took part in this year ’ s event , confirming the great moment this race is currently living . Amongst this large list there were 32 Vertigo riders , one of them was Dougie Lampkin , who was about to make his debut aboard the new Lampkin Replica . Also , Vertigo official riders Jorge Casales and Matteo Poli didn ’ t miss any of the action .
As usual , the event was set in a three-day race , with the riders having to negotiate 31 sections per day . The starting order is modified for each day , with the aim to provide different terrain conditions to all the riders and avoid advantages for some of them . The differences between the top riders were quite small , so every mistake often resulted in a deficit that is difficult to overcome .
Gabriel Marcelli ( Montesa ) and Jorge Casales ( Vertigo ) fought brilliantly for the win throughout the thee days of competition . Before the start of day three the general standings were pretty tight , with four contenders with high chances of taking the final victory : Francesc Moret ( Montesa ) with 1 mark , Marcelli with 2 marks , while Casales and Oriol Noguera ( Jotagas ) not far behind , each with 3 marks . It was finally a mark by Casales in section 30 , the penultimate one , that gave the win to Marcelli , with Casales settling for second .
Dougie Lampkin demonstrated his talent at Santigosa , not only by taking the overall victory in the Veteran A class , but also by fighting against TrialGP riders for the top spots of the overall standings . In fact , he ended the weekend with only 9 marks , enough to earn a stunning 5th place in the overall classifications . Without a doubt this was the best debut possible for the Vertigo Lampkin Replica , which offered great sensations just a few days after it was launched .
