In spite of the climbing gas prices nation-wide , riders and visitors from many states and foreign countries attended the event . 231 riders total competed over two days in 20 sections observed by 40 checkers . In attempt to reduce bottlenecks , we ' ve capped riders ' limit to 125 each day . And spread the riders across all 10 sections on their first loop . As you might guess , it didn ' t exactly work out !
Saturday ' s Pro Exhibition was spectacular ! Josh Roper ( Gas Gas ), Pat Smage ( Sherco ), Daniel Blanc- Gonnet ( Gas Gas ), Alex Niederer ( Beta ), Sam Fastle ( TRS ) and Chris Bruand ( Electric Motion ) battled in five challenging sections , designed and built by no other than 10-times US National Champion Geoff Aaron . Expert commentary by MCs Phil Smage and Jared Malmquist . The Sword of Spain , a magnificent El Trial de España perpetual trophy , went to Josh Roper of Gas Gas . Pat Smage of Sherco placed second , followed by third-place winner Daniel Blanc-Gonnet of Gas Gas .
Après-trial main event featured a large raffle sponsored by Dirt Riders West and Motoworld of El Cajon . El Trial raffle is the source of fundraising for the USA Trial des Nations Team .
