PLANNING FOR THE 2022 DAKAR IS ALREADY UNDERWAY
The 44th edition of the Dakar will see competitors return to Saudi Arabia for the third time .
Scheduled to run January 2-14 , 2022 , the event will start in Ha ' il and finish in Jeddah , after a rest day in Riyadh . Organizers are adding in the Empty Quarter , an immense desert as big as France , extending over the entire south-eastern region of the country . Three of the events stages will be primarily located in the dunes .
The 2022 edition marks the beginning of the plan to host a field of cars powered solely by alternative energies by 2030 . What this means for the motorbike categories will be interesting to watch develop . The disappearance of combustion engines will take place according to a progressive timetable subject to technological developments .
