STEP 4 - As you work your way around the tire , insert two irons in ( using the reverse wedge side ) to help hold the bead down . You ’ ll want to do this at about the 1 / 3 and 2 / 3 mark . Alternatively , if you aren ’ t using the Rabaconda tire irons , Motion Pro ’ s Bead Buddies work very well for this , and in a pinch , vice grip pilers will also suffice ( consider grinding down the teeth so they don ’ t unduly scrape the rim ).

STEP 5 - Near the end , when the bead is stretched especially tight , it can be helpful to ease up on the previous iron , letting it lift partway back up . This will create a little more slack and make it easier to slide the iron in without scuffing the rim . If a little bit of tire is left ( too little to get another iron in ), a good whack from a deadblow hammer or a well-placed stomp from a boot should force it the rest of the way in .

STEP 6 - Don ’ t forget to tighten the rimlock back up !
