three points , with Smage pulling a clean ride on his final loop . Section three proved to be too much of a challenge , as none of the Pros were able to complete ; again , the evershifting forest floor did not allow for enough stable traction for riders to overcome the single rock obstacle .
Being located closer to the pits , the first few sections were surrounded by a plethora of fans cheering on riders of all classes .
Mid-day , about halfway through the Pro ’ s second loop , it began to rain , changing the terrain yet again . In some places , the rain washed mud off the rocks and helped provide traction ; in other places , it made some of the hill climbs much more difficult . Scores improved throughout the final loops for most riders despite the changing conditions .
“ I knew that as soon as it started raining it was going to get hard and it ' s going to get really really nasty ,” said Will . “ I have ridden here in the rain before and it sucks , but knowing that , I was able to keep the pace moving and get done a little faster so I could ride more sections and when it was drier . The strategy was to just go out and do my best , stay consistent because I ’ ve been struggling with consistency . I was pretty consistent today and I ’ m pretty happy with it .”
