DO YOU FEEL THE COMBINATION OF YOUR MOTOCROSS BACKGROUND , HAVING KAILUB AS A TRAINER , AND BEING ABLE TO STAY HEALTHY HAS HELPED WITH YOUR SUCCESS IN GNCC ' S SO FAR ?
Yeah , having a motocross background , I think , helps you attack the track more in places that woods riders wouldn ’ t . It helps you jump things , jump roots and rocks and stuff like that so it just gives you a different perspective looking at stuff .
I feel like everything ' s just falling into place ; I had some rough luck the last couple years so just with luck on my side this year and everything going right , I honestly knew I could do it . I just knew that I needed to fix a couple things and basically get all my ducks in a row and it would come and it feels good that it has paid off .
YOU ' RE CURRENTLY RIDING THE 2021 GASGAS MC250F ; HAVE YOU DONE ANY BIKE UPGRADES ? DO YOU HAVE A DIFFERENT SETUP FOR THE GNCC ' S AS COMPARED TO THE SPRINT ENDUROS ?
I ' m not running the same motorcycle for both series . It ' s the same brand and same cc ' s , so basically same thing ; we ’ re running the same tires , maybe a little bit different on the clickers , but basically the same thing .
WHAT ARE YOUR GOALS FOR THIS YEAR ?
Honestly , staying healthy and finishing a season because I have yet to finish a full season at GNCC . I ' ve always been taken out a race a couple races early or getting hurt or getting sick so I ' d just like to finish a full season . That ' s a basically a big goal for me this year .
Since this interview , Johnny has been picked to represent the USA on the ISDE team . We look forward to checking in on the team to see how training ' s going in the weeks and months leading up to the iconic event .
I have a factory bike so I have factory motors and suspension ; it ' s not the same bike you ' d pick up from your local dealership . I honestly can ' t even tell you what ' s done to them and they ' re secretive about it ; that ' s more the mechanic side . You just tell them what works and what doesn ' t , and they fix it .
