pulled , the rubber band flew to open a day of great racing as moto one roared into the right-hand first turn . Races well into the double digits were required to accommodate the spectacular turnout for the event . Early races had to deal with a touch of slickness as the standing grass was laid flat in the turns , which are often off-camber as a result of the topography of the sloping pasture that is home to the course . Later races were free of the slick grass as the seasonable summer heat and bright sunny day either dried out the fallen grass , or enough churning rubber threw the grass off course . Off-cambers remained an added technical aspect of this course even when dry as the ground has been packed hard from decades of trampling hooves and resists forming berms in some areas . But , apart from some unavoidable dust later in the day , the course held up wonderfully and the competition was top-notch . A true highlight of the day was everyone ’ s number one fan Dan Zell fervently cheering with personalized pit-board messages as riders ascended the new down / up turn with a little extra oomph from
