Empowerment Through Books
Tip #5 Handwrite your speech.
One of our greatest fears is that we will forget what we are supposed to say. Research has proven people remember things better when they write them down. Handwriting your speech and reading it aloud repeatedly guarantees you will remember it.
Tip #6 Wear comfortable clothing and shoes.
No matter what the occasion, whenever you’re in the spotlight you must dress to impress yourself. In other words, wear clothes and shoes that fit properly and feel comfortable and flattering on you. Whenever you present, you want to look and feel like new money---crisp, fresh and clean.
Tip #7 Record your talk.
Speaker’s Coach Sandra Schrift recommends that you record your speech when practicing and always when you speak before a live audience. I find this practice to be very helpful. When you listen later, it helps you identify your strengths and improve on areas that need tweaking which makes you even more confident the next time.
Over the course of my life, I have looked to books for insight and answers. I've looked to books to escape, to learn, to grow, and to be inspired. Books, the written words and shared stories, have been my best friends and I'd like to introduce you to one of them.
Ten Poems To Open Your Heart
by Roger Housden
Ten Poems to Open Your Heart is a book devoted to love: to the intimacy of personal love and lovemaking, to a loving compassion for others, and to the love that embraces both this world and the next. Through
the voices of ten inspiring poets, and through illustrations from his own life, Housden expresses the tenderness, beauty, joys, and sorrows of love, the presence of which, more than anything else, gives
human existence its meaning.
As Housden says in his eloquent introduction, “When the heart opens, we forget ourselves and the world pours in: this world, and also the invisible world of meaning that sustains everything that was and ever shall be.”
For networking events, work, school, church or anywhere, confident speaking is a matter of practice---and a good presentations coach.
