PICOS MOUNTAINS SPAIN

The 2nd Legal & Ethical Challenges in Medicine Workshop for 2017 shifts to Spain - Sept 24 to Oct 2, 2017

These are some of the most stunning mountains in Europe traversing green valleys, meadows, remote villages, forest and craggy uplands. The route is rich and varied. The days are well organised but will require a moderate degree of fitness as there are some long uphill sections. Bags will be transported between accommodation venues.

We will meet in Bilbao from where we will drive into the heart of the Picos de Europa National Park. Our first village destination will be the charming medieval town of Potes from where our walk will start nice and easy through the Vega de Liebana valley. As the days progress our walks will become just that little bit tougher as we ascend to the craggy limestone uplands. There is one short section where you are required to follow a ridge with fixed ropes for support but there is an alternative less vertiginous option if you do not have a head for heights. The last day has been reported by some of our guides as in their opinion being amongst one of the most beautiful walks in Europe.

Apart from the trekking the region is rich in culture and you will be treated to some fine food and wine. Indeed artisan food production is a key feature of the local economy and includes the famous and powerful Cabrales blue cheese. This trip will heighten your senses, offer a stimulating and interactive CPD program and let you embark on an adventure through the spectacular but somewhat less traveled mountains of northern Spain. Combine this with a few days in Madrid, Seville or indeed anywhere else in Spain and you are sure to have a fantastic experience.

The last group of delegates we took to Picos raved about the experience so we always knew we had to go back.
