Eyes & Ears for Learning Improving pathways from the eyes and ears to the brain For most children, learning comes easily, but for those who struggle, it can be the pathways and/or processing that aren’t working. Therapies are provided at Eyes and Ears for Learning at Tuggerah, based on improving pathways from the eyes and ears to the brain. The Eyes. (Visual) While your child’s sight was diagnosed as normal by an Optometrist, but your gut tells you something still isn’t right, they may still be having trouble maintaining focus and tracking. This results in broken concentration, and ultimately, poor language and reading skills. The child falls behind in their schoolwork, and may be seen as lazy, inattentive and disruptive. The Alison Lawson Program at Eyes and Ears for Learning offers a simple and safe treatment that is non-invasive and requires no medication. Ten (10) one-hour sessions are conducted one-on-one with a trained therapist, and are supported by a series of home exercises. This treatment is designed to train the eyes and brain to work together, so that visual messages are received and processed correctly. The Ears. (Auditory) The Listening Program, developed by Advanced Brain Technologies in 1998, has been used successfully worldwide for children and adults. It has been developed according to how sound affects the nervous system. It helps to improve listening, learning and communication abilities, it aids in processing skills, sensory processing, and better memory skills, as well as stimulating the system to take in, think about, and organise information for a better output. Where information was once fragmented (think of trying to make sense of a conversation breaking up on a mobile), The Listening Program fine tunes and acts as a regulator. It helps to maximise brain performance and improve brain health, and allows people to better self-regulate and manage their lives to ultimately realise their greatest potential. 38 KIDZ O N T H E C OA ST The Listening Program is a music listening method, personalised to improve brain fitness at any age, level, or ability. Testimonials hold glowing reports, such as: “Improved fluency in reading…letters are static on page. Thank you, your personality and approach with L. has also helped to build his confidence. (I) couldn’t be happier with the result of following the program. It was a lot of work for L., but worth it! He still has a way to go, but he now is able to progress. This hasn’t really happened since 1st grade – so thank you.” Adele B. “I think this is a wonderful program for children (and parents) who find school a struggle. A beacon of help! Our eldest daughter who completed the program two years ago, now loves school and is thriving, so we are hoping for a similar outcome for Evie.” Rebecca P. “More open to doing homework, not such a battle. Improving with her vocabulary. More fluency. More confidence” Johanna C.
