On the Coast – Families Issue 94 I June/July 2018 | Page 4

JUNE/JULY 2018 Welcome Last week my girls and I saw the new film ‘I feel Pretty’ featuring Amy Schumer. It was such a feel good movie and I was sore from laughing! But along with the humour, was a real message. One that all us self critical women should take note of. If you haven’t as yet seen the film, it’s about a woman who struggles with feelings of insecurity and inadequacy. Then in a gym session she has a fall and wakes, believing she is suddenly the most beautiful and capable women ever! With this new found confidence, she is empowered to live her life fearlessly. 8 Contents Dyslexia and Evidence- Based Intervention: What’s effective and what’s not 12 Monitoring your baby’s movements during pregnancy 14 How to live a more positive life 16 Winter Dreaming – Create riches from within 20 Meningococcal Disease and vaccination 26 Cholesterol information – A bigger picture 28 Connecting and healing young children through play Editor: Simone Evans [email protected] Art Director: Debbie Elliott [email protected] Publisher: Phone: 4325 3393 Debbie Elliott – Ph: 0421 026 915 Simone Evans – Ph: 0413 186 431 trading as Kidz on the Coast ABN 66 765 066 257 54 Hills Street, North Gosford 2250 Warranty & Indemnity 34 Is anxiety holding my child back? 37 Taking stock in motherhood matters 38 Is baby sleep complicated? 40 Finding your style when you are a mum 42 How can nutrition play a role in children’s learning and behaviour? 44 Expectations – We all have them 46 What’s on Do you ever look in the mirror and only see what you aren’t happy with? Do you have a voice inside that is critical and self judging? I’m sure we all do from time to time but it really must stop. Like the film says, it’s time for us to love ourselves madly. We need to shine in our own light, be confident in our convictions and trust ourselves fully. I’m not too far off 50 and so lucky to be healthy and happy with my lot in life. I give thanks everyday for the abundance of goodness that comes my way. But I’m my own worst critic and always have been. Now I’m trying to just love myself as I am and find the qualities that I actually like about myself. Interestingly, once you start, the gratitude comes through quite obviously and surprisingly quickly. Did you ever watch the film ‘The Help’? It is definitely up there as one of my all time favourites. This film has many teaching moments and words of wisdom but the most memorable quote for me is “you is kind, you is smart, you is important’. Let’s take note of these powerful words!!! Remember to love yourself madly!
