Richard’s Relics
July’s object in Richard’s Relics is a flared metal clasp with a screw
tightener that clamps the clasped end to something. It has a shaped
handle for gripping while in use. Do you know what it is used for
clasping in its jaws, how it is utilised, and for what ocassion? We’ll
give you the answer in next month’s issue.
“They tell me some homes
don’t have a
piano nowadays.
But I don’t believe them.
Do you?”

Last month’s
mystery object
June’s unusual object was entitled
‘Equation of Time Table’. It was a
printed paper table mounted on
a piece of board and drilled with a
hole at the top centre for hanging
on a wall.
The description for the use
of this table is: The equation of
time describes the discrepancy
between two kinds of solar time.
These are Apparent Solar Time,
which directly tracks the motion
of the sun, and Mean Solar Time,
which tracks a fictitious “mean”
sun with noons 24 hours apart.
