➜ For me it’s a release of energy its an element of creativity, I like to be creative where I can so it’s an expression of creativity and I like making big noises of course and showing off on stage! The future will be some festival appearances next year, but its not about getting signed or anything like that its about having fun. er Walk Dick Felix’s Granddad, When I was at Latitude the guy running the stall next to us came in for a hair cut and I told him about the band he asked what our influences were. I told him I really liked Duran Duran their first two albums are amazing and he replied “that’s interesting you say that because my Dad’s Andy Taylor”! I really didn’t know when I said it, so anyway he’s gonna play his dad a video of our gig. That’s fun! What’s the best thing about living in Arlesey? We moved here three years ago, it lovely, it feels quite ‘villagey’, I love living near the church, the proximity to the station, its great. I’ve got a lot of connections to Arlesey, my Granddad lived in Arlesey he is Dick Walker, he invented the “Arlesey Bomb”. My cousins were brought up in Arlesey and I used to fish with my Granddad, he invented the ledger weight and its famous round the world now. That’s cool. My Dad was in a folk band that used to play in Arlesey a lot, in The Three Tuns, I used to join in sometimes. He played with the Bowskills. So the best thing about living in Arlesey is it feels like I’ve got roots here. I like Arlesey especially Church End and I like being part of the community. I’ve met some good characters in Arlesey. As an enthusiastic guitarist I was always looking for people to play with. I found a few via some ‘muso wanted’ sites and also attended a jam session near Luton. I wanted to start something similar in Arlesey as I knew there were plenty of players around. The original sessions were a few years back and attracted a few people at the White Horse (under the previous management), but fizzled out. Last year I got together with Jon Boys to start a ‘guitar club’ where we would gather at my house to play. From this we started a new Wednesday jam session at the White Horse where we were made very welcome by Louise and Mark. This has grown into something that attracts musicians from Letchworth, Hitchin, Luton and further afield. We’ve been running an open mic session every month where people get a chance to perform with a PA in front of a friendly audience. There have been a number of debut performances there as people have grown in confidence. Some of the guys have formed a band. It’s mostly been guitarists at our sessions, but I’d like to see it expand to include other instruments and other events. The Arlesey Musicians group on Facebook is just a framework for people to find others to play with. I’d love to see them start other events. We already had Clive Lombari start a daytime session. The pub are happy to have musicians in when there is not another event on. So if you have an instrument gathering dust under the bed bring it along to one of our sessions and you will be made very welcome. We love to have singers too. It’s all about having fun whilst improving our performances.
