from the Vicar . . . Mothering Sunday Church Services St. Peter’s church Events at St Peter’s during March Sunday Services As usual we will have flowers to give to the congregation for their Mums – this year it’s Sunday June 6th, 9.30 am. Everyone is welcome. St Peter’s – the movie Over the past few months Jodie Chillery has been working with us at St Peter’s to produce a short video. In it we some of the members of our congregation tell us what the Church and their faith means to them, and we get scenes of some of the activities and services that the Church provides for people of all ages. You can see the film at our Service on March 6th – Mothering Sunday – 9.30am, or by following this link (from 13th March onwards); http://qrs.onl/czyeub or you scan this QR code (right). Open Church Project For the past year or so we have been preparing the Church to be opened every day of the week. This preparation comes to completion on Sunday 24th April when the Bishop of St Albans will be preaching and leading the Parish Communion at St Peter’s. Everyone is welcome to attend. We are looking for volunteers to help with the rota for unlocking and locking the Church every day. If this is something you would like to help with please get in touch with me. Churchyard Safety Test Recently we tested all the tombstones in the churchyard to ensure that they were stable and could not be accidentally knocked over. Last year a child was killed in a civil graveyard in Scotland, a terrible tragedy which reminds us of the importance of doing this annual test. We found 15 stones that were unstable, and laid them carefully on the ground. A list of the affected memorials can be seen on the north gate to the Churchyard. We are hoping that relatives of the deceased will contact us and undertake the necessary repairs. There will no doubt be some memorials which are no longer attended by living relatives, so we will get an estimate of the cost of repairing those and appeal to the community for donations to underwrite this.
