ferocious storm Last month it seems nearly the whole country saw and heard the huge storm that made its way across the area. Starting late in the evening on July 3rd and lasting several hours into the very early morning of the 4th. It was one most ferocious storms we have seen for a while. It has been painstakingly restored at Threlkeld Quarry and Mining Museum in Cumbria after being granted lottery funding. The oldest remaining steam navvy of its kind is once again in full working order . The Arlesey Neighbourhood Plan is progressing apace and more people are showing an interest and wanting to get involved. The first Public Exhibition, which was held at the Scout Hut in June, was a great success with an estimated 200 residents attending over the two days, and we followed this up with a stall at the Arlesey Fun Day. These events provided some great feedback as well as some innovative ideas that we will look to take forward into the research phase, and we have an ever-growing list of residents wanting to help out or simply be kept informed of progress. We have recently set up some working groups to concentrate on specific topics and, while we have volunteers in each group, we could always use more as there is a lot of work to do. If you’d like to get involved in one or more areas, please use the contact details below. The working groups we currently have are as follows: Traffic and parking (working closely with the ATC group) Housing Environment Businesses and Local Economy Heritage Shops and services Sports and recreation Amenities for children and young people Footpaths and cycle routes One other key activity ongoing is the Housing Needs Survey which was delivered to all households in early July. This will be an important evidence base for the plan and we urge all residents to complete it. It can also be completed online at www.surveymonkey.com/r/Arlesey. Cllr Jon Want, Chairman, Arlesey Neighbourhood Plan Steering Group West Drive gets a makeover The popular walking, jogging and cycling route is being resurfaced, cleaned up and will have new lighting. Work has started to clean-up the link between Arlesey High Street and Fairfield. Many people use the old hospital access and it has needed a face-lift for some years. At one stage it was to be a bus route from Fairfield to Arlesey and the station but this plan was dropped. New LED lighting has been installed and will be switched on very soon. 6 | August 2015 | on the button, 32 Stotfold Road, Arlesey. Bedfordshire. SG15 6XT www.onthebuttonarlesey.co.uk
