Happy Easter St. Peter’s church
EASTER Sunday is April 5th this
year – people often ask why the date
of Easter changes every year. The
reason is because the feast is related
to the date of the ancient Jewish
festival of Passover which in turn is
related to the phases of the moon.
The Passover (see the book
of Exodus for the story) was the
great rescue narrative of the Old
Testament, in which the Israelites
were rescued from their slavery in
Egypt. Leaving their old ‘dead’ lives,
they travelled to a new life in the
Promised Land.
It’s easy to see how this is often
compared with the Resurrection in
the New Testament, in which Jesus
leads his followers from this world
into a new life; “I am the way, the
truth and the life” – words we often
hear in funeral services.
The phenomenal thing is that
roof carvings
One of the
Jesus’ resurrection, how you view
in St Peter’s Church
it, was the unique foundation of the
Christian Faith, which has over 2,000,000,000
followers around the world today.
We shall celebrate this event at our Easter Sunday service at 10am to
which everyone is warmly invited.
On the same day we also hope to see Etonbury Academy’s art in the form
of re-creations of the Panels of the Font . We are very grateful to Denise
Gahagan and her pupils for their work in producing these.
St Peter’s online information…
From April two sources of information will be available on line, a
searchable index of burials in the churchyard and the Church’s calendar.
The burial index of nearly 1,600 graves currently runs up to 2005 and
work is in progress to bring burials since then into the database. You can
access it at gb1.me/ceuhvy
The Church Calendar can be accessed at gb1.me/ciirsm
They can also be found on vicar.arlesey.org.uk
