a letter to the editortransport – or a lack of . . . I am writing to highlight a failing I believe to be wholly unacceptable with regard to the recent roadworks on the High Street in Arlesey. I believe there should have been a replacement bus service for the duration of the roadworks and as an OAP was appalled not to have this continuation in service as we have had before. I contacted Ward Councillor Rita Drinkwater who replied to me the next day saying there was no funding for this. I then looked at the timetable and could not find a specific number to call. Then after being directed via three different numbers got through to someone to ask about the lack of service, who replied “We don’t know as they don’t tell us”. I then contacted Central Beds Council and was told “it’s nothing to do with us – try the bus company”. After this I contacted the bus depot at Bedford and the man on the phone was more helpful, but he did say the council tell them there are no funds.
