ear readers, we are now getting into wintertime. Nights are getting
longer and colder, leaves have turned and fallen and Christmas is
just round the corner.
With the centenary of the beginning of the First World War in August
this year an emphasis has been on commemorating our fallen soldiers
from a hundred years ago not just here but worldwide.
Our very own commemoration will come to an end in November to
coincide with Remembrance Sunday on the 9th. Arlesey Remembers You
has seen a complete cross section of the community come together and
create a legacy we will all be a part of.
The double screening of the documentary is scheduled for 22nd of
November at the village Hall. For more information on this contact

I have seen the hard work on the project first hand on a recent trip to
Verdun in France, where a group visited the battlefields of the longest
battle of the First World War. Three crosses were placed during the trip
as part of the project.
I hadn’t visited any of the battlefields before, and it’s true what I have
been told, you can never imagine the conditions endured by the men who
fought but you understand the enormity of the losses.
But if nothing else, maybe we should remember that each one lost was
a person to be remembered.
This year unfortunately I have not been able to produce a calendar. I
hope to create one for 2016 and will advertise this later next year.
