6. Pix & Ivel
A riverside walk along the Pix brook, crossing the Kingfisher Way and on to
farmland and along the banks of the River Ivel. This walk of four miles can be
varied each time by using the four optional routes suggested.
7. Cityfield Farm
An easy walk passing over a good firm track with disused gravel workings
along the route, now a home for wildlife. Watch out for Kingfishers along the
river. At the River Hiz crossing you pass the site of one of the mills mentioned
in the Doomsday Book of 1086. The millrace can still be seen in the water.
8. Poppy Hill
This walk takes in the Henlow Bridge Meadows and riverside walks passing
Henlow Grange, a period house (now a health farm). Cross the River Ivel and
make for the footbridge to cross the East Coast railway line towards Toplers
Hill. Returning via Vine Farm following the Kingfisher way along the River Ivel
back to Arlesey railway station.

The Kingfisher Way
This has long been an established walk and runs from Baldock
through Stotfold and the north of Arlesey up through Henlow to
Langford and beyond.
The Hicca Way
The footpath, was opened in July 2012 and will take you from Henlow
Bridge Lakes next to Arlesey station, south on the west side of Arlesey,
through Ickleford, onto Hitchin and Charlton where it finishes. Some even
get on a train and walk back from Hitchin. Leaflets on the walk are now
available from the Resource Centre in Arlesey.
The opening of the Hicca Way in July was the culmination of many years
work by members of ACORN. For more information about the Hicca Way
please contact Roger Watson on 01462 731963
Leaflets about the walks are available with all the maps.
We have maps for five of the eight walks here.
