February. Our congratulations again to all that have taken part in what has been
a very enjoyable experience for all concerned.
Youth Speaks Competition
Latest Sports Results
WE WON! Congratulations to Ella Martin, Alistair Lowe and Honor Willans
for their brilliant delivery of an exceptional speech at the second round of the
national Youth Speaks competition. The round was held at Northampton High
School for Girls and the competition was tough this year, with teams putting
forward GCSE students. The Etonbury team’s speech, Intergenerational
Language, was creative, well crafted and masterfully delivered. We’re proud of
You, Ella, Alistair and Honor!
Willow (fedge) project
On 30th and 31st January, pupils were given a once in a life opportunity to help
put together Etonbury Academy’s own willow structure!
We started to plant a living willow structure called a fedge, (a living hedge)
around the wildlife pond by using a tool to make 30 cm deep holes to plant the
willow and firm the gap with compost this took a long time and made us very
cold, muddy and wet!!!!!!!
We also learnt how to do a special kind of knot for tying the branches together
and how to weave it to make a nice repeating pattern.
We made two willow entrances in the fedge, leading to the pond which we are
hoping to plant with some help from TEASEL this year. In a couple of year’s
time we will have a beautiful growing willow structure. Our thanks go to Claire
Bull in conjunction with Dunton Community Garden.

Young Chef - Etonbury Final
Well done to our six finalists in the Etonbury Final of the Rotatory Club Young
Chef Competition. Congratulations to Millie Mason who was our final winner and
to Jakye Smith who came a very close second. The standard was extremely
high and very professionally presented. Millie will have enormous support
when she enters the Regional Round at North Herts College–Hitchin on 15th

Year 7 Regional 5 aside Finalists.
After qualifying as one of the top 2 schools in Bedfordshire from the County
round of the National 5 aside tournament in mid November, the Year 7 boys
football team marched into the regional round on Friday, 17th November.
Our boys played against the best school teams in East Anglia. Antonio
Marra finished anything in front of goal and becoming top scorer with nine
outstanding goals by the end of the tournament. This put us in second
place allowing us to progress into the semi finals. The semi-final saw the
boys work hard to contain a strong Queens School side. At 1-1 the game
was extremely close until a wonder strike from Harry Buck-ley put the
boys into the final. In the final we faced John Hampden School from High
Wycombe. Etonbury started strongly, creating three certain chances, which
unfortunately didn’t go in and may have changed the outcome of the match.
The game changed when Lenny Pollock was brought down in front of goal
and sustained a serious injury. The boys battled on to be the first team in
recent Etonbury history to reach a regional final in Football. The boys are
now ranked 2nd in East Anglia at their age group and can be proud of this
massive achievement, having outperformed hundreds of schools. Well done
to all involved including Ronnie Payton, Connor Pashley, Harry Buckley,
Antonio Marra, Jake Loriot, Jonathon Fleming, Lennie Pollock and Dylan
Moore. With special thanks to Mr Paul Martin who gave up his day to drive
us to the University East Anglia and Mr Marra for coming along to support
and (Lenny’s mum for collecting a broken, but satisfied in victory, Lenny)
