St Peters Church – January Saturday 11th January 2014 – Epiphany Party: Family Games evening & supper at Arlesey Methodist Church 4.30pm. Please would everyone remove Christmas wreathes and flowers from graves in the churchyard by the end of January. We ask that you do NOT put flowers or wreathes in the wheelie bins, there is just not the capacity. Please take them home and use your own bin. Flowers only may be put on the compost heap by the shed. Your help in this matter would be greatly appreciated. ....and don’t forget our regular Coffee Mornings at St Peter’s Church: Coffee, Tea, Home-made cake and company every Tuesday from 10.00 until 11.30am.... On Saturday 11th January 2014 (as noted in the December issue of ‘on the button’) there will be an Epiphany Party at the Methodist Church – combined with St Peter’s. It begins at 4.00pm and there will be supper (bring and share). On November 27th last year we had a novel experience at the church – a Nigerian supper. This was arranged by Mrs Grace Igwe of Hitchin whose late husband, Rev. Dr. Egemba Igwe served in the Methodist Church internationally. She and half-a-dozen helpers from Hitchin arranged and supplied everything so the Arlesey folk had the pleasure of sitting down to a meal without having to prepare it and clear-up afterwards. The evening was greatly enjoyed by 26 diners, and another event on similar lines is promised. Watch this space! Minister at the church is Rev Bob Forrest. Our coverage has increased to some neighbouring villages, we have made it possible to print a colour cover section and nearly all our calendars have been sold (only a few left if you would like one). All this in my spare time. Unfortunately burglaries have continued to rise over the last few months so be vigilant and please report anything you find suspicious. Ollie Martins, our local Police and Crime Commissioner came to the December Town Council meeting to talk on crime. If you hear or see anything suspicious call 01234 841212.
