Women’s Institute from the editor
October’s meeting saw Gordon Hamilton give a talk on ‘The Need Project’,
which exists to provide a Christian response for various situations of need,
including the provision of food parcels, clothing, equipment and furniture. It
is an intermediary between statutory organisations, e.g. Social Workers and
Health Visitors, and the point of need in the community. The project does not
discriminate who they respond to, and the purpose of the ministry is to help
the community in a practical way. Faith is their motivation.
There will be a box at each W.I. Meeting for the forseeable future for the
project if you would like to donate.
The Need Project is part of Kings Baptist Church Stotfold (charity no:
1136519).
The November meeting of the W.I. is on the 12th November and the
talk will be on ‘Windmills and Watermills’ by Mr Robin Webb.
N
ovember sees a big step in the future here in Arlesey. There is to be a new
consultation on the expansion plans for Arlesey. Every resident is urged to
go to the Village Hall to view and comment on the plans being displayed. This
is your future, your comments and questions are so important. Please take the
time to go and view the plans on the 9th and 16th of November – details on
page 11. Our local MP Alisdair Burt will be there on the 9th to talk about the
plans, so go and share your views and concerns with him.
We are producing a 2014 calendar again – so if you would like to preorder your full colour, page per month calendar, please contact us or fill in
the form on page and return it to us by post.

The Summer Reading Challenge was very well supported by the Children of
Arlesey, with 171 registering to take part. The winner of the challenge was
Jaiden Matcham who was presented with his prize during a Celebrations
assembly at Gothic Mede Lower School.
We took part in the Big Macmillan Coffee morning on Sept 27th and were
totally overwhelmed by the support we received from the local community!
Thank you to everyone who came to the coffee morning and to those who
baked cakes and donated raffle prizes. We raised an astonishing £500.22 for
this very worthwhile charity. We should all be proud of the small part we’ve
played in easing the burden on a family in need. There are still a few raffle
prizes that need to be collected by Jean Brooks, Karl & Brenda, Katherine
Henderson and Anne Marie White.
