Survey Results
Part 2
Here is a further update on the survey results. Just a reminder that the
views of 562 adults were recorded during the three week period the
survey was open.
In response to the question about “What do you like about living in
Arlesey?” the following responses were recorded:
• Rural location 412 responses 73.3 %
• Open green spaces 395 responses 70.3 %
• Transport connections 328 responses 58.4 %
• Recreational walks 304 responses 54.1 %
• Quality of life 281 responses 50.0 %
• Family connections 169 responses 30.1 %

One of VOA’s main concerns has been the secrecy around a ‘master
plan’ for the scheme. It is understood to be based upon building of a
minimum of 1000 houses over the next decade or so. The bulk of the
development would be on land that is currently farmed (i.e. East of
the High St. back to the A507) or that which is open green space (i.e.
sandwiched between the High St. and the railway line, from Primrose lane
to the White Horse). These are currently ‘green spaces’ and contribute
towards what makes Arlesey a ‘rural location’.
If the scheme were to go ahead we believe this would represent

a major threat to the things most valued by residents. It is also clear
from responses received that recreational walks on and around open
spaces in Arlesey are highly valued and contribute to the quality of life of
residents. Green spaces also featured prominently in the feedback to the
official consultation last summer (79 responses in total recorded), so the

reassurances have yet been offered as to how this will be maintained.

VOA intends to present these concerns to the stakeholders in the

We also intend to press your local representatives and CBC for a step
