Manager, who offers guidance and best practice advice to ensure a high satisfaction rate amongst
candidates.
As with any good analysis, it’s just as important to look at the both sides of the spectrum. There
are clear learning’s from those candidates who recorded a neutral / negative experience of video
interviewing. We looked at 1500 non-completed interviews on the system and surveyed a sub
section of these. Of those who hadn't logged into Sonru, 62% provided explanations that were
related to discomfort with the process or lack of experience with video interviewing. These can be
addressed by keeping candidates well informed and concerns about lack of human interaction are
proven to be eliminated by including the personal touches such as personalised emails and
introduction videos. It's important to remember that there is bound to be a small subset of negative
feedback as interviews or tests of any kind take us out of our comfort zone, in addition to normal
levels of attrition as happens in the recruiting process.
Following from this research and analysis, some key conclusions emerged with regard to the
candidate experience of video interviewing. The flexibility offered to candidates to choose the time
/ not having to take time off work emerged as the key benefit. Overall convenience emerged as the
second most popular benefit. This is hardly surprising given that 86% of respondents completed
the interview from home.
Almost one fifth (19%) of respondents found gaining the experience of a video interview to be their
preferred benefit. This is reflected in the growing number of careers centres of leading Universities
adopting Sonru to prepare students for modern recruitment techniques.
Our final insight from researching this data showed that candidates liked the interview format. It
enabled them to reflect and ponder their responses and also gave them the opportunity to
showcase their personality and communication skills. Video interviewing offers a transparent
process. An interesting advantage for candidates is the option to review their video interview at a
later stage. Not only will this allow them to prepare for future interviews, it will offer them the option
to improve from the experience.
