Beyond the treatment room they engage their communities, deepen understandings of health and rehabilitation and broaden the range of practice opportunities available to the next generation of chiropractors. The OCA Awards are presented each year to recognize the contributions and achievements of chiropractors across the province. It is our pleasure to share the stories of the recipients of the 2014 Awards. Chiropractor of the Year Dr. Eric Jackson (Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College, 1983) has been a champion of the profession for over three decades. In that time he has learned a great deal that he is continually excited to share with newer colleagues. First and foremost, Dr. Jackson encourages new chiropractors to take the long view and focus on providing excellent patient care. “The reward of a lifetime of providing care in a community setting for generations of families is preferred to emphasizing numbers and cash,” he said. “It is better to provide quality care with a specific focus on clinical outcomes than to simply adhere to a philosophical orientation. This brings great satisfaction and inspires the confidence of your patients which will generate referrals for decades to come.” Dr. Jackson’s contribution to the profession has also included participation on the boards of the OCA, Canadian Chiropractic Association, Canadian Chiropractic Research Foundation, his local chiropractic society and with the Rehabilitation Sciences Fellowship. 24 WINTER 2015 “ I see our profession moving forward and the scope of our influence increasing as we become more accepted as spinal care experts.” He welcomes chiropractors to become involved, as “each portfolio and responsibilities brings tremendous opportunities to develop your own chiropractic philosophy and build relationships with goodhearted, hardworking in
