Parapan Am Sports C anadian sports clubs are increasingly moving toward an integrated model, so don’t be surprised if athletes with disabilities in your community are training alongside athletes with no disabilities. Sports holding integrated national championships in Canada include swimming, weightlifting, rowing and triathlon. The athletes on these national teams — with and without disabilities — train alongside each other. In the descriptions of the Parapan Am sports below, we have listed sportspecific organizations. Below, we have indicated sport eligibility for these major classes with the following icons: V Visual impairments I Intellectual impairments P Physical impairments ARCHERY P Archery is open to athletes with physical disabilities such as spinal cord injuries or an amputation. The archers may shoot with assistive devices as required, and they may shoot from a standing or seated position. Adaptive equipment is not always needed, so there is little available on the market and athletes who do need it often make their own. This can include equipment which allows an athlete to release their bow using a mouth tab or a clothespin:.
