Parapan Am Sports
C
anadian sports clubs are
increasingly moving toward
an integrated model, so don’t
be surprised if athletes with disabilities
in your community are training
alongside athletes with no disabilities.
Sports holding integrated national
championships in Canada include
swimming, weightlifting, rowing and
triathlon. The athletes on these national
teams — with and without disabilities —
train alongside each other.
In the descriptions of the Parapan
Am sports below, we have listed sportspecific organizations. You may also

ARCHERY
P
Archery is open to athletes with physical
disabilities such as spinal cord injuries
or an amputation. The archers may
shoot with assistive devices as required,
and they may shoot from a standing or
seated position. Adaptive equipment
is not always needed, so there is little
available on the market and athletes who
do need it often make their own. This
can include equipment which allows
an athlete to release their bow using a
mouth tab or a clothespin:.
