God ’ s Faithfulness in Mozambique

Reflections of

God ’ s Faithfulness in Mozambique

By Larry Weil , Former OMS Mozambique Missionary and Current Finance Team Member , OMS USA
The Mozambique of today is much different than when One Mission Society ( OMS ) began ministry there in 1996 . It was a dark place , having ended a devastating 17-year civil war in 1992 . The country and its people struggled to survive , with little food and scarce jobs . It felt like a dark cloud of depression hung over the country . This is what the first OMS Mozambique team of seven , led by missionaries Bruce and Mabel Callender , encountered upon arrival in the fall of 1996 . But it wasn ’ t long before new ministry opportunities blossomed and new hope and joy in Jesus replaced that dark cloud .
Christian Academy in Mozambique ( CAM ), the first ministry of OMS Mozambique , opened its doors on September 12 , 1996 , with 12 students from the missionary community . CAM celebrates its 25 th anniversary in 2021 . The school grew under the leadership of founders Claude and Marilynn Meyers from 1996 – 2006 . For the next 13 years , OMS missionary Susan Weil directed the school . The school has expanded to become an international Christian school , serving missionary and business families from around the world , with students from 18 countries . Today , CAM hosts nearly 130 students under the leadership of its current director , Duane Pass . The school continues evolving to meet the needs of its diverse community while retaining its core value of providing quality Christian education .
