Hard to Find … Too Valuable to Lose
It ’ s costly to serve Christ and others in cross-cultural ministry . Living far from loved ones , learning a new language and culture , being aliens in a strange land , and facing likely rejection , even hostility , are just a few sacrifices missionaries can face . Why even venture into this kind of work ? It takes humility , adaptability , grace , deep trust in God , and perseverance , along with a lot of love . Plus , most stepping into missionary service with OMS will have to raise and maintain financial support , which takes faith , initiative , and courage .
No wonder new missionaries are hard to find .
Honestly , unless a person has a deep sense of God ’ s leading to do this , it ’ s probably better not to apply . Why ? Because in times of discouragement , loss , and conflict , without such a call , the tendency is to return home where life feels more comfortable and convenient .
In this issue of OMS Outreach magazine , you ’ ll learn how OMS is increasing
its investment in discovering and mobilizing new workers . In accordance with Luke 10:2 , we ’ re praying for the Lord of the harvest to send forth laborers . Networking in a variety of ways , we seek to engage those called to this selfless , risky work .
Once connected with missionary candidates , we do everything we can to prepare , nurture , and serve them . When the sacred duty of senders is done well , the likelihood of impactful ministry by those sent greatly increases . Those who are called by God and have OMS and a team of senders standing behind them are simply too valuable to lose . Thanks for your part in loving , praying for , and helping to send and support OMS servants of Christ !
Excited and grateful ,
Bob Fetherlin
