Funds from Mercy provided life-saving
prevention kits, which included soap, chlo-
rine tablets, and sanitized watering sta-
tions. Mercy also led community health
education programs to train the people
how to prevent the spread of the disease.
OMS’ VCP training centers soon became
the hub of the heath education training
and spiritual counseling programs. Each
VCP center relates to between 15 and 40
churches and villages.
With funds in hand, Pastor Noah said
they trained VCP pastors, trainers, and
church members how to treat and handle
water in hygienic ways. The teams then
taught hundreds of people from the local
communities in many villages about the
precautions to prevent infection. In one
village alone, OMS VCP workers trained a
group of 237 people composed of teach-
ers, female leaders, local authorities, and
pastors. During that training, they also pro-
vided 140 safe water containers, chlorine
tablets, and soap.
Pastor Noah and the people in the DRC
give thanks to OMS for the help that resulted
in no further infections being reported from
those villages where OMS teams conducted
health training programs.
