Five Loaves and Two Fish
Five loaves and two fish.
That’ s all that was needed for the miracle of feeding more than 5,000 people at once when these simple objects were placed in God’ s hands.
Did you realize that this is one of only two miracles found in all four Gospels? We know that repetition usually means God wants us to pay attention— that what we need to learn must be pretty important.
In this story, I see God’ s abundant generosity and grace. In John’ s Gospel, I see that just as a little boy surrendered his meager gifts to Jesus, we, too, can surrender what we have to the Father and see what mighty miracles He can do in and through us as a result. OMS’ role is to steward what God provides:“ When they had all had enough to eat, he said to his disciples,‘ Gather the pieces that are left over. Let nothing be wasted’”( John 6:12).
That’ s what God wants from you and me, from OMS and from the Church as a whole … He wants our surrendered obedience with our time, our talents and our gifts … with nothing wasted.
In this issue of OMS Outreach, we highlight the stories of God’ s faithfulness and provision and how OMS continues a rich history of being accountable to Him and to you in all we do to steward as He provides.
