Faithful God,
Faithful People, Unfinished Task
Throughout Scripture, nearly 40 passages describe God’ s character as“ unfailing love and faithfulness”( in some translations,“ steadfast and true”). This repeated language is not incidental— it consistently bears witness to God’ s character. Psalm 36:5 offers one such expression:“ Your steadfast love, O Lord, extends to the heavens, your faithfulness to the clouds.”
We present these pages not only to report but to bear witness to a story far larger than any of us— one authored by God, who has been and remains unwaveringly faithful.
This story begins and is sustained by a Faithful God. His purposes have moved through every season of this organization’ s life and have been woven into every step over these 125 years.
God’ s faithfulness is also evident through Faithful People. Some go, and some send. OMS stands where it does today because of thousands of people who have been willing to go, and many thousands more faithful donors, supporters, prayer warriors, and friends who have been willing to send. It has been my privilege to be part of this OMS family for more than 40 years.
As we look ahead, we do so with the clarity of an Unfinished Task. There are still disciples to be made among places and people groups waiting for the first word. The God who has been faithful in every chapter behind us is already present in every chapter ahead. We don’ t need new data to convince us that the task given to us, his church, is unfinished. We will continue making disciples( Matthew 28:19) and obeying what Jesus commanded, praying to the Lord of the harvest to send more workers( Luke 10:2).
