When the Chief Said Yes
“ The answer is‘ no.’ This is a Muslim village on Muslim soil; it always has been, and it always will be.” For months, an OMS Village Church Planting( VCP) worker had heard this response from the village chief whenever he asked to show the JESUS film in the Central Togo village. Despite the repeated refusals, the church planter felt God urging him to persist.
One day, he approached the chief again. The answer was the same. However, this time, during their conversation, the chief shared a personal struggle— his battle with insomnia.“ I haven’ t slept through the night in years,” he said.“ Not even the imams or the witch doctors can heal me.”
Immediately, the church planter prayed that the one true God would show his power by healing him of insomnia. The following morning, the chief called, asking the church planter to come and share more about this God who could do what no other had.
Today, that same village in Central Togo is home to a thriving church— and one of its members is none other than the village chief himself.

In spring 2025, our VCP team in The Gambia gathered for training at a conference center. One participant, Matthew, ran into technical issues— he couldn’ t connect to the Wi-Fi— so he approached the young woman at the front desk for help.
She resolved the issue quickly, but before walking away, he initiated a conversation. He recognized something familiar in her accent and asked where the young woman was from. When she named the village, Matthew paused. He had lived there for many years.“ What is your father’ s name?” he asked. Her reply brought tears to his eyes. Her father was a Muslim man that Matthew had led to Christ two decades earlier. After hugs and tears, Matthew brought the young woman— now a follower of Christ, led to faith by her father— to the next training session to share their story. A simple Wi-Fi issue had become a divine appointment— God at work reconnecting lives across generations.
