In 2019 , I joyfully served as a youth leader in my church , but during COVID , like so many others , I couldn ’ t do that anymore . During this difficult time , I lost my way . I didn ’ t know what God was doing in my life . I isolated myself in my house and followed the government lockdowns in Australia . Months later , my friend invited me to participate in a group Bible study . During the studies , I wholeheartedly refocused on the Word of God and dove into studying it on my own to learn and grow .
Several months later , my Bible study leader asked me , “ Diamond , would you like to do an OMS short-term mission trip to Spain ?” I had no idea what that even meant . I had never done any type of ministry outside of the church .
I hesitated to say yes for many reasons but still decided to go . My excitement grew as I thought about this amazing opportunity to serve at Camp Peña de Horeb in Spain . The OMS Australia team assisted with booking flights and other logistical details of my journey . In August 2022 , I traveled from Melbourne to Spain for a three-week mission trip through OMS ’ Embark program . As I departed , I felt uneasy about what was in store for me in Spain . Yet , as I took my seat on the plane , peace washed over me , and I felt God ’ s presence . I was not alone ; he was with me .
At the camp , which is about an hour outside of Madrid , I assisted with cleaning and serving around the camp in whatever ways I could . During my time there , I felt at home , at peace , and full of purpose , even though I was far from home . God used me , even in my uncertainty .
While in Spain , I had opportunities to share the Gospel with both young and older people . I learned to trust God more through this season , realizing that what he does is always for the best . I feel God sent me to Spain so he could use me to minister , open my eyes to missions , and mature me so I could boldly reach out to both local people and those at the camp .
Looking back at the opportunity I had , ministering with OMS through Embark was the best thing I have done in my life , serving God and realizing he has a plan and a purpose for me .
