Newly signed Universal Music Group artist, KAPRI
returned to Trinidad and Tobago Carnival season
this year.
Since her last visit in 2014 – which afforded KAPRI
her much lauded international performance at the
Tobago Jazz Festival alongside music heavyweights
as John Legend, Earth, Wind and Fire and
Tessanne Chin– the emerging Canadian-born and
Trinbagonian-rooted artist has claimed the title of
Universal Music Group’s newest artist, and released
her chart-topping debut single.
Deeper, KAPRI’s inaugural single, amassed over 112k
stream through Spotify alone, and succeeded top
artists such as Justin Bieber, Migos, Gucci Mane, and
Chris Brown for the #1 spot on the music platform’s
Canada Viral 50 in its first week. The corresponding
music video to the single was released one month
later in an exclusive video premiere with Fashion
Magazine. The video, which was filmed in Toronto
and boasts several nods to the Trinbagonian
community, and its single have gained much
attention from an ever-growing fanbase, leading
to a grassroots movement that has brought Deeper
to top local charts and serviced to Top 40 radio
rotations across the country.
KAPRI’s return to Trinidad and Tobago, allowed the
self-managed artist to work with local artists and
producers, and reignite her connection with her
cultural roots.
