VENDORS ENCOURAGED TO GO GREEN
Vendors in the food and
beverage industry are being
reminded that everyone
has a role in protecting the
environment.
At the recent stakeholders meeting on Green
Alternative Food Packaging, Kwesi Des Vignes,
Secretary of Infrastructure, Quarries and the
Environment, said businesses should also consider
their impact on the environment.
He said phasing out polystyrene products
(Styrofoam) will require them to step out of their
comfort zones. Linford Beckles, the director of the
Department of the Environment, agreed, saying
there’s no need to wait for legislation to do the
right thing.
At the forum, supplier “Hello Green”—which
supplies green alternatives for food storage—held
a display on alternative packaging made from
materials like bagasse, corn and palm leaves.
The event was held to sensitise the public about the
need to phase out Styrofoam products in Tobago.
