OP SPORT
HASTINGS Hastings got off to a flyer, smashing 48 off the first 4 overs. At 164-2 the Pixies were getting worried! However, wickets started to fall at regular intervals as Josh Tanikal( 4-52) and Steve Burdett( 2-21) got in on the action. The host’ s 254 looked like a good score, but certainly chaseable with the form the Pixies had been in with the bat. Despite 2 wickets in the first over, a huge partnership between Joe Moore( 47) and Max Wilson( 59) put the Pixies into a strong position to win. After further contribution from Matthew Atkinson( 42), Ruben Moore( 26) and Arthur Savage( 18 *) it looked like the Pixies were romping home. However, 3 quick wickets from the hosts left the Pixies one agonising run short of the Hastings score, causing the tour to end in heartbreak.
The Pixies once again have many people to thank for another successful tour. The committee, comprising of Marcus Townend( 72-82), Charlie Lambert( 01-08), and Matthew Atkinson, for organising the tour and all that goes into it. We express great thanks to the Old Pocklingtonian Association for their continued support, ensuring that it is financially viable for the younger generation to come on the tour. Thanks to the players who turned up, having one current schoolboy and a handful of recent leavers maintains the long-term future of the Club. Final thanks go to the host clubs, without whom the tour would not be possible, so thanks to: Holmesdale, Ansty, Haywards Heath, Marden and Hastings – look forward to seeing you next year!
Thanks go to everyone who turned out for the Club this year, be it playing, umpiring, scoring or supporting. Your contributions make the Pixies’ success possible, and as Mal always said,“ keep coming back”. The Club hopes to have more social events over the winter than ever before, so keep an eye out, it would be great to see you there! Winter well!

OP CRICKET 2025
MATCH REPORT: SUNDAY 22 JUNE 2025
SCORES: OPs: 279-8 declared( Ollie Rook 125, Tom Binns 85),( Tom R 4-65, James S 2-14) Pocklington 1st XI: 205-8( Tom R 77, Ben M 24, James S 21) MATCH DRAWN.
A sun-drenched Sunday provided the perfect backdrop for another high-scoring encounter on a superb batting surface at Pocklington. The Old Pocklingtonians( OPs) continued their tradition of entertaining cricket, led by a commanding century from Ollie Rook( 10-24), who picked up where he left off last season. His 125 was a blend of power and placement, aided by some generous fielding from the hosts!
Supporting him was captain Tom Binns( 07-18), who crafted a fluent 85, anchoring the innings with maturity and intent. With the scoreboard ticking over rapidly, the OPs declared at 279 for 8, setting the School side a challenging target with three hours left in the day.
In response, Pocklington’ s top order showed resilience. Ben M and Tom R provided a solid start, with Tom impressing with a well-constructed 77. However, the OP bowlers kept chipping away, and wickets fell at regular intervals, keeping the game finely balanced.
As the final hour approached, the match hung in the balance. With the possibility of a dramatic finish looming, Charlie E and Joe G held firm for the School, navigating the closing overs with composure to secure a hard-fought draw.
Charlie Lambert( 01-08), OP President, commented:“ It was another excellent game played in great spirit, and good to see our younger OPs and recent leavers taking part.”
Thank you to umpires David Byas( School) and Charlie Lambert( OPs), and scorer, Ben Byas( 08- 15) for coordinating the match, and to the students and OPs for playing.
